Privacy Policy

Miriel AI is developed and operated by Poseidon R&D Inc (mirielai.com). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Miriel app.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information to provide personalized nutrition guidance:

  • Child Profile Data: Name, birth date, gender, allergies, medical conditions, dietary preferences, and sensory/feeding preferences (e.g., texture or temperature aversions)
  • Health Information: BMI and growth measurements, meal logs, dietary-diversity tracking, and nutrition tracking data
  • Usage Data: App interactions, chat history with AI coach, and scan history
  • Device Information: Device type and OS version for app optimization
  • Regional Setting: The nutrition guideline region you choose (e.g., US, EU, Korea, WHO), used to tailor portion and growth references
  • Parent/Guardian Email Address: Provided during account setup — used to verify parental consent and, only if you opt in, to send product updates and tips
  • Subscription Status: Your current plan tier and billing period (Apple processes all payments — see Section 10)
  • Anonymous Analytics: App usage events (e.g., features used, session duration) sent to our backend with a random device identifier — no personal information is included

2. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used to:

  • Generate personalized meal plans based on your child's profile
  • Provide AI-powered nutrition advice through our chat feature
  • Analyze food labels for allergen detection
  • Track nutritional intake and progress over time
  • Send optional notification reminders
  • Verify parental consent during account setup via a one-time email code
  • With your opt-in consent, send occasional product updates, new feature announcements, and nutrition tips — you can decline at signup and unsubscribe at any time
  • Improve app quality through anonymous analytics (opt-out available in Privacy Settings)

3. AI Processing & Third-Party Services

This app uses the following third-party services:

Google Gemini AI

  • Purpose: Nutrition advice, meal planning, food label analysis
  • Data Sent: Anonymized age groups, allergy and dietary information, food preferences, and meal photos (when you use the scanner or photo features)
  • Data NOT Sent: Your child's real name (replaced with "Child"), exact birth date, or email address
  • Photo Handling: Meal photos are sent as compressed images for analysis. Photos are processed in real-time and are not stored on Miriel or Google servers beyond the API request. Avoid including identifiable content (faces, personal items) in meal photos.

USDA FoodData Central

  • Purpose: Nutritional database lookups for accurate food information
  • Data Sent: Food names and search queries only (no personal information)

Open Food Facts

Backend Analytics (Supabase)

  • Purpose: Anonymous app usage analytics and customer support
  • Data Sent: Random device identifier, app usage events, app version, OS version, locale
  • Data NOT Sent: Names, health data, or any child information. Analytics events never include your email address.
  • Control: You can disable analytics at any time in Privacy Settings

ElevenLabs (Voice)

  • Purpose: (1) Text-to-speech for optional voice narration on premium plans (e.g., the Daily Recap and read-aloud coaching), and (2) speech-to-text for the optional voice meal-logging feature — both routed through our secure backend proxy
  • Data Sent: For narration, the spoken text only (anonymized nutrition highlights that refer to your child generically, no real name). For voice meal logging, a short audio recording of your voice is sent to be transcribed into text.
  • Data NOT Sent: Your child's real name, exact birth date, email, or meal photos

Website Analytics (PostHog)

  • Where: On our website (mirielai.com) only — not inside the app
  • Purpose: Understand how visitors use the site (page views, navigation, performance) to improve it
  • How: Cookieless, privacy-friendly analytics; form inputs are masked and we do not use it for cross-site advertising

Email Storage & Delivery (Resend)

  • Where: If you provide an email address, it is stored on our backend (Supabase), kept separate from anonymous analytics, and processed by our email provider (Resend) to deliver messages
  • Purpose: (1) account and parental-consent verification codes (transactional), and (2) only with your explicit opt-in, product-update and nutrition-tip emails
  • Your control: Opting in is optional at signup, and you can unsubscribe from product emails at any time via the link in every email
  • Not sold or shared: We never sell your email address or use it for third-party advertising

All third-party services are used solely to provide app functionality and are bound by their respective privacy policies.

4. Location Information

Miriel can optionally use your location to display real-world weather in the app experience.

  • How it works: Location is processed entirely on your device using Apple WeatherKit
  • What we access: Only your approximate location (city-level accuracy) for weather lookup
  • Data storage: Your location is never stored on our servers or sent to third parties
  • Control: You can deny location access anytime — the app will use seasonal weather patterns instead
  • Disabling: Go to iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Miriel to change permissions

Weather data enhances the experience but is completely optional. The app functions fully without location access.

5. Poseidon R&D Inc Data Processing

Miriel AI is developed and operated by Poseidon R&D Inc (mirielai.com).

Poseidon R&D Inc will process user data as described in this policy for the following purposes:

  • Service improvement and feature development
  • Debugging and error handling
  • Customer-generated support reports
  • Quality assurance and app optimization

All data processing follows the same privacy standards outlined in this policy. No data is shared with third parties beyond what is explicitly stated.

6. Data Storage & Security

  • Your child's data is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and is encrypted at rest by iOS
  • No automatic iCloud sync or backup: Miriel does not currently sync or back up your data to iCloud or any server — your child profiles, meal plans, nutrition logs, and chat history stay on the device where you created them
  • Switching or resetting devices: Because data is local-only, reinstalling the app or moving to a new device does not carry your data over unless you first export it (Account > Privacy) and import it on the new device
  • Sensitive data (passcodes) are encrypted using SHA-256 and stored in the iOS Keychain
  • We use biometric authentication (Face ID/Touch ID) when available

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Miriel is designed for parents to manage their children's nutrition. We are committed to protecting children's privacy:

  • We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent
  • Verifiable Parental Consent (VPC) is required before any data collection, implemented via email verification
  • The parent email used for verification is stored only to operate your account; it is used for product-update emails solely if you separately opt in, and is never used to advertise to children
  • Children's exact ages are never sent to AI services — only anonymized age groups (e.g., "Preschool", "Pre-Teen")
  • No third-party tracking or advertising is used
  • Parents have full control over their children's data
  • Parents can delete all child data at any time from Account settings
  • Parents can withdraw consent at any time, which will require re-verification to continue using the app

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: View all data we have about your children
  • Correct: Edit any incorrect information
  • Delete: Remove all data from Account > Delete All Data
  • Export: Download all your data in JSON or CSV format
  • Opt-out: Disable AI features or analytics from Privacy Settings
  • Unsubscribe: Opt out of product-update emails at any time via the link in any such email (this does not affect transactional verification emails)
  • Withdraw Consent: Revoke parental consent at any time from Privacy Settings

9. Data Retention

  • Profile data: Retained until you delete it
  • Chat history: Retained until you delete it
  • Scan history: Retained until you delete it
  • Meal plans: Retained until you delete it
  • Email address: Retained while your account is active; you can withdraw marketing consent at any time, and it is fully deleted when you delete your account
  • Anonymous analytics: Retained on our backend; deleted when you delete your account
  • Deleting the app: Removes all on-device data. Because Miriel stores data locally and does not back it up to iCloud, deleting the app (or resetting the device) permanently removes that data unless you exported it first

You can delete all data at any time from Account > Privacy > Delete All Data.

10. Subscriptions & Billing

Miriel offers optional paid subscriptions (Standard and Advanced), available as monthly or yearly plans, sometimes with introductory offers or free trials.

  • Payments: Processed entirely by Apple through the App Store — we never receive or store your credit card or payment details
  • What we store: Your current plan tier and billing period, used to unlock paid features
  • Auto-renewal: Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends; manage or cancel anytime in iOS Settings > your Apple Account > Subscriptions
  • Same privacy for all tiers: Your subscription tier does not change what personal data we collect

11. Referral Program

If you participate in our optional referral program, we record referral relationships so we can run the program fairly and grant rewards.

  • When you generate or share a referral link or code, we store it and associate it with your account
  • When a new subscriber signs up using your link or code, we record that the signup was attributed to your referral, so we can verify it qualifies and grant your reward
  • Adult account holders only: this concerns parent/guardian information — the invite flow collects no information about children
  • You share it yourself: you send your link or code from your own device, so we do not access your contacts and do not message the people you invite
  • No marketing by default: being referred does not add anyone to a marketing list — marketing remains opt-in (Section 3)
  • Retention: we keep referral data only as long as needed to operate the program, confirm rewards, and meet legal recordkeeping obligations, and we delete it when you delete your account (except limited records we must keep by law)

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Changes will be posted in the app and on this page. Significant changes will prompt a new consent request within the app.
